Day 5 - Cycling France 🇫🇷 + Spain 🇪🇸
52.3 miles, 6hrs 9mins,
Was a Tough day as I procrastinated and by afternoon had cycled less than 15 miles.
Today was the first day I experienced rain during this trip. The bolt of lightning in front of me was so bright it took me by surprise, shortly after the rumble of thunder shook the ground I kid you not.
Cycling in the rain is miserable, all I could think about was how humid it was… the temperature was (90°F that’s 33°C). My bum is starting to feel sore from six hours in the saddle every day to top things off.
However on the bright side it didn’t rain very much and most of the day was hot and sunny so much that I am now bronze coloured.
It’s Monday today and most places in France close on Sundays and Mondays so it was another day of limited choice for the shops. I found a cool little village which had a queue of about 15 people outside the boulangerie so I joined the queue and bought myself a baguette and pan au chocolate. I felt very French walking down the street with a baguette under my arm.
I’ve noticed around lunchtime you need two hands to count the amount of people carrying baguettes.
I walked into a bar to buy a coffee as an excuse to use the toilet because the one my maps directed me to was not fit for a human. Upon entering the bar I saw two men sitting down with a baguette on the table another two men sitting at the bar with two baguettes on the bar and then a man walked in with a baguette under his arm.
I couldn’t believe it so I pulled my phone out and filmed the funny screen sending it to my dad as we see the funny side of things.
Inside the supermarket today I bought myself a corkscrew and therefore was able to choose a nice organic red vine from Bordeaux. I also bought some olive oil and some sponges to wash my dishes with.
Finally after riding 50 miles to get into my campsite I had a conversation with a man who spoke no English and I speak no French… it was a Animated. I’m now sitting with my tent looking at me inviting me telling me to get into bed and go to sleep.
