Appalachian Trail Day 22

Pretty woke up constantly throughout the night. Having Biscuit sleeping 6 inches to my right gave me no space. I woke at 5:30am and immediately got up and ready for the 17 mile hike to Pierce Pond Lean-to.

No big elevation change today, mostly flat, smooth, pine needle trails. I took a couples hours to swim and lay in the sun around midday at East Carry Pond. I could not resist after seeing a small almost white Sandy beach.

Laying there chilling I listened to Techno music and totally relaxed. It’s very rare to get these special moments. But if you take the time to recognise when to relax at the right time, your always going to have special moments.

Once at my destination “Pierce Pond Lean-to, I made my way over to Tim’s place. Harrison’s Pierce Pond camp is the name of Tim’s wooden house and cabins which are situated deep in the woods, away from and towns.

At first I could not find him but then after a walk around I found Tim talking with. Sobo hiker sitting on his outdoor wooden porch. The porch over looked a river and humming birds were hovering over feed hangs along the edge of the roof. At eye level standing the magnificent, small fast winged bird hover in the air around the feed.

It’s just Tim alone by himself. Tim said he has friends made over the 30 years helping out sometimes or even hikers. Tim’s place is listed in Guthook guides as a place you can get a pancake, egg and sausage breakfast for $12.

Tonight I’m camping by the pond. I’m cowboy camping (no tent), the weather looks dry on ATweather.com. I had a little cell service and checked it out.

The surroundings are peaceful and the wind is blowing a cool breeze across where my sleeping bag and mat are situated on the floor.
