Appalachian Trail day 23

Breakfast with Hummingbirds

The way today started was the way everyday should start.

Tim laid out plates on the tables, each one stacked high with homemade berry filled pancakes. A side plate was brought for those who had opted in for scrambled eggs and sausages, an extra $3.

Charlie the Little dog walked around the room looking for left over food opportunities. But hikers do not leave food to waste, they either eat it all or pack out with them.

I said to Tim you probably get tired of hearing this but your home, kindness and pancakes are amongst the best I’ve experienced, Tim replied “I never get tired of hear that”.

Hollywood and I walked the 4 mile stretch to the Kennebec river upon which I phoned Warren Doyle and asked for advise on fording it. Warren told me what to do and I followed his instructions. Hollywood and RainFire both forded also.

The river was low so the water only came up to our waists. The rocks were slippery which lined the bed of the river. I felt safe and got to the other side no problems.

I resupplied at the Sterling Inn and then got driven to the Sterling in a shuttle bus too Northern Outdoors. A hiker owned grill and brewery with a pool and hot tub.

10 of us entered the Brewery we were shown a large table outback but I decided to sit alone inside. The brewery was beautiful, all wooden and I wanted to soak it all in.

The Woodsman burger and IPA I ordered were tasty. I then chilled in the hot tub as the sun poured over my face.

It’s here I met Oddi, a former thru hiker of 2013 who since then has created hiker year books. You send in your photo from the thru hike after it’s over and Oddi creates a full book of all thru hikers who finish.

I chilled with Oddi for a while. He showed me his converted school bus and then I got a lift in it to the post office. I collected my gloves from @Lekiuk

Now tucked up in bed, I am concerned about what ever is walking around on the corrugated roof is pretty big.
