RECAP - Day 26 - 2024 Appalachian Trail - Fastest Known Time Attempt 🏃♂️
⏰ Start time: 3:58am
📏 Distance: 51 miles
⏳ Time on trail: 15hrs 42mins
🚶♂️ Avg. speed: 3.3 mph
⛰️ Elevation gain: 9,958 feet
⬇️ Elevation loss: 10,092 feet
Coming down Black Mountain, I distinctly remember the Sun setting. A man sat barefoot, cross-legged next to a fire, feathers sticking out of his hair, smoking a pipe. He resembled Bob Dylan in some way, and though the entire scene seemed unreal at first, it truly happened. 🌅🔥🦋
Today’s detour took me along the Palisades Interstate Parkway, via the Anthony Wayne Overpass. I took a photo to document the reroute. Apparently, a hiker tragically passed away when crossing the road, so now we cross via an overpass. 🚶♂️⚠️
The heat continues to press down on me, like a weight that seeks to pull me low—but I fight to stay upright. Some days, simply making it through the day feels like the greatest achievement. Thankfully, with a crew like Ice Man and Gun Section by my side, I’m well taken care of, and I never run out of supplies to tackle the challenges ahead. 💪🏞️🛠️
Today, I passed my 1400-mile marker. Each marker is a reminder of how far I’ve come—every 100 miles marks a new chapter in this journey. The trail markers, created by fellow hikers from sticks and branches, always bring me joy. There’s something deeply gratifying about these humble symbols of perseverance. I always stop to take a photo. 🌲📸
When I return to the trail this year, I hope the heat is gentler, though if it’s not, I’ll face it with the strength I’ve built. Life, like the trail, demands patience and resilience. ⏳🌄
