Appalachian Trail day 27

I Can See Katadhin

I woke in the night cold and put on my Rab puffer jacket to warm up. Besides that my sleep was restful. There is something quite perfect about not setting an alarm. I go to bed when it’s dark and wake up when the sun rises.

The dirty bubble slept around the campfire cowboy style. I get on well with them and have been included in the circle of friends. I do not have the bond that they all have that comes from 6 months of hiking together, but they were the first hikers I met on trail. I’ve been more or less camping with them or staying at the same hostel most of the time.

I started hiking at 7am. Road Soda and Nanaman passed me when I was using the toilet (outdoor nature toilet). I decided I would try catch them and in doing so I lost concentration and lifted my knee fast forcefully into a rock. It hurt like hell, so much I thought I may end up horizontal on the ground in tears. I took several breaths and limped on.

“Hike your own hike Down Over”, I said to myself.

I found the perfect camp spot. Hollywood and Order of Chaos are staying here also. We had most of the dirty bubble pass by. Whilst sitting around a campfire we chatted, a perfect way to end a tuff day.
