Another Day on the Trail: A New Pair of Hoka Tecton 4

Today was another steady day on the trails, and I had something new to test: a brand-new pair of Hoka Tecton X4s, straight out of the box.

One of the things I like about a new version of a shoe is when it doesn’t feel dramatically different from what came before. The Tecton X4 felt familiar straight away, which is a good thing. When a shoe already works well, there isn’t necessarily a need to reinvent the experience.

I headed back onto the same path that leads towards Mongo, running up and down the trail and keeping the effort deliberately controlled. I’m not interested in forcing the pace at the moment. The goal is to give my body the work it needs without constantly asking it for more.

I carried 0.8 litres of water with electrolyte powder added and made sure I stayed hydrated throughout the session. I was also listening to the Ultra Runner Podcast, which has become a regular companion on these outings.

There’s something enjoyable about repeating the same route and workout while still finding something different in each session—the terrain, how the body feels, what you’re listening to, or simply how your mind is responding to the effort.

Today wasn’t about pushing limits. It was about putting another good session in the bank.

Coaching Spaces Available

I’m currently taking on new coaching clients.

Whether you’re preparing for your first 50K, your first 100-miler, or your 10th 100-mile race, I work with both experienced ultra runners and athletes taking on their first big challenge.

If you’re looking for structured training, accountability, and coaching tailored to your goals, send me a message and we can arrange a conversation about your training.

One run at a time. One session at a time. Keep moving forward.
