You can achieve miracles
I started reading a New York Times bestseller last night called “Last Words” It’s the life story of George Carlin co written by Tony Hendra.
It feels good to read again as it’s been a while. It rained the whole time a read. Hearing the rain connect against my tent made me feel secure and safe.
When I woke the rain was still coming down. Now came the unpleasant task of breaking down camp. But first I made coffee and breakfast.
The trail for the most part of today was a moving steam. I did my best all day to keep my feet as dry as possible by stepping around the puddles.
After a couple of hours I took a break. Sitting drinking coffee a hiker appeared to my left and said hey Kristian. I looked but did not recognise him. Apparently he was sitting in Nanamans car when Nanaman stopped while I was walking down the street in Gorham.
We hiked together for a while. His name is Ulga and Ulga likes to hike fast. He is 51 and has the same build and frame as Karl Meltzer. Ulga told me he sold his house and all his possessions. He also told me that he has done numerous Vapassanas (10 days in which you meditate).
After a while I decided to go it alone and stopped off at a Brook to go for a swim. Ulga carried on hiking. I took my time, made a coffee and listened to techno. The sun came out first then the rain, collected my stuff together and started up a long climb, a Brook ran beside the trail most of the way.
Finally I arrived at a Spaulding mountain lean-to, a couple of hikers named Smokie and Afternoon Cowboy who are nephew and aunt were in the shelter. I took the left side of the lean-to which looked as inviting as a 5 star hotel.
Unpacked all my stuff from my bag to air dry. It’s still raining now, the sound of rain is pita pattering on the corrugated tin roof.
I feel so content after 10hrs of being on the trail each day. I’m pretty much living outside now and have been for almost three weeks, only stepping inside occasionally at towns.
Goodnight
