Me during the setting of the world record on the South West Coast Path

Having the ability to serve a hot tasty meal during the Appalachian trail (AT) Fastest known time (FKT) attempt is now possible due to Base Camp Foods (BCF). They have supplied about 100 meals for myself and the crew.

100 REAL TURMAT MEALS

Can’t wait to eat them all…

Last year I reached out to BCF asking if they could help with my South West Coast Path (SWCP) record attempt, a lovely lady named Jenny responded to my request and agreed to help out. The photo you see above is of me the night before I started the SWCP, a 630 mile journey around the Cornwall and Devon section of the coast of England.

I remember how much I enjoyed the meals, both breakfasts and dinners, Sharon, trail name “Gun Section” who crewed was able to have an extra 30 minutes nap each morning due to my breakfast being prepared the evening before. Starting at 4 am each morning requires preparation.

I had a selection of meals from BCF, it was the Real Turmat that became my favorite. So for the 2021 AT attempt I’m super excited that not some but all meals are from The Real Turmat. There will be many nights I camp out alone on the AT and during these times I will take a dinner and breakfast with me.

It’s important these are light as I must carry them in my running pack. To give you an idea, 2 x meals will weigh less than 250 grams but provide me with about 1000 much needed calories. My daily calorie expenditure will range from 8000 to 12,000 calories, up to 5 times the recommended daily allowance for one adult male.

This post is to thank Base Camp Foods and their contribution to 2021 Appalachian trail record attempt. Please go check out their website as they supply a wide range of products. www.basecampfood.com
