Thailand North face 100 km 2025
The Thailand North face 100 km 2025. Unfortunately, my sore throat started four days prior to the race. However, leading up to the race, I was aware I had a sore throat but didn’t feel too bad.
Getting to the start on the moped I rented was eventful. Google Maps took me across a farmers field. I proceeded through the cornfield bouncing up and down as the bike struggled to pass over the uneven ground.
I joined the second line of 100 km runners as we waited for the countdown. I wanted to be in a position where I could see who is going out fast and my strategy was to stick with them to see if this pace was comfortable for me.
As it turns out two Thai runners led the race and shared the trails with me. For the most part I stayed behind them but upon crossing the 50 K halfway point I was 10 minutes behind the lead Runner but had a 7 minute lead on third place which put me into second position.
At this is the point. I realised that my sore throat had progressed a stage and now made my muscles feel achy, my lungs were about 80% of their Max. I started thinking about pulling out of the race as my goal of winning seem to be slipping.
At the same time I had other thoughts, these were anticipating how I would feel if I finished in comparison to pulling out, even if it meant I was in last place. I knew by persevering and finishing the race in my ill condition would ultimately be a learning experience and make me feel 1000 times better than if I stopped.
And so it goes the following 45K were a combination of Speed hiking with jogging when I could. Eventually, third place caught up and passed me as did fourth place who was a Chinese female Runner.
So now I was in fourth position but I was still moving forwards and keeping a check on how far behind me Fifth position was. I used the Thailand North face tracking page. I had a good 30 minutes on fifth place and I intended to hold onto my fourth position until the end.
Lesson learn even when you feel all is lost keep persisting great things happen.
